The video by Jason Mraz is about how narrow the standard of beauty has become in the media
and shows the negative impact on the self-esteem of both women and men. The song is about
coming to accept the appearance one already has as beautiful and rejecting how our culture
defines being attractive. This video reinforces that our project, which seeks to diversify the way
beauty is portrayed, is a relevant and necessary effort.

Hello Kitty, A Japanese icon, is one of the worlds latest victims of Western cultural imperialsm. Sanrio recently released a new line of Hello Kitty products that are designed to look like socialite Paris Hilton. This epitomizes how the very narrow-minded Western ideal of beauty had permeated the richest of cultures.
